Medical School and Beyond!

Island Arrival

on May 1, 2013

Monday, April 29th, my family was up by 2 am and at the airport by 3 to arrive at St. Kitts at 2:05 pm, local time.  Upon leaving the airport in Basseterre, St. Kitts we were greeted by students and staff from UMHS and I was given an island cell phone.  The welcome team then took us all to where we are living and I checked into my room.  At which point we went grocery shopping to get some essentials, boy do groceries add up fast here.  Getting settled into my room was not easy and before I knew it we were getting ready to go down to the strip to eat dinner at a Mexican Restaurant with the other new students.

Today I was able to get some much needed relaxation allowing me to sit by the Marriott pool, walk down to the beach for a little while, and get my room mostly organized.  While I still have a few things to do, like organizing my toiletries, my room is starting to feel and look homey.  Of course there are some items I did not think about bringing and need to purchase here on the island.

For the most part I feel that I am adjusting well to island life and am making some solid friendships.  All the students I met so far are very nice and welcoming and have been very helpful.  Tomorrow I start orientation and really get started on my medical school adventure.

Here are some pictures of my room and the view off my balcony.

I’m so happy you made it safely and are making friends already! I know I am going to have a hard time getting used to not seeing you every week, but I am just so excited for what God has in store for you! I love you, Roomie!
