Medical School and Beyond!

Surviving Block 1

on June 6, 2013

As hard as it might be to believe I have completed the first quarter of my first semester of medical school.  Even though it went by fast the first month was a tough one.  Before I left the states people were constantly telling me how lucky I was to be able to live on a beautiful tropical island and have beautiful weather year round.  However, what they did not realize is the rigorous work involved in medical school.

The past month went by so fast and when asked what I did my reply is go to school and study.  Since April 28th I have been to the beach 3 times, the pool 6 times, and town 3 times.  The majority of time is spent on campus or in my room.  This weekend was brutal studying nonstop preparing for block 1 exams which occurred this past Monday, which I did great on.  However, outside the weather was perfect 80s and sunny.  But who cares I would be home by 4:15 on Monday and was going to grab my iPad and go to the beach, drink a daiquiri, and read for the fun of it and just relax.  Well, Mother Nature had different plans for me.  At about 11am on Monday morning the sun went away and the skies opened up.  This seems to be the pattern I am experiencing the weather is wonderful when I cannot enjoy it and gloomy when I can.  All I can say is the two days after the semester is over before I go home better be nice so I can enjoy myself before heading back to Chicago for 11 days and then back here to the same study schedule.

That said it will all pay off down the road; I just have to make it thru these 2 years and then I will be in clinical getting hands on experience and then 2 more years until I receive the official doctor title.  With the strength given to me from God I will succeed and fulfill my dreams and make a difference in His Kingdom.

I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come?  My help comes from the LORD,  Who made heaven and earth. Psalms 121:1-2

Kimber…. Love your bible verse selection!
Congratulations on doing well on your first block exams!
You will make a fantastic doctor, and boy does the world need you and people like you!
I know it will be so much hard work, I can’t imagine. But, at least you know the schedule and can see the end. Remember how fast this is all going!,,
    Love to you
