Medical School and Beyond!

A Quater of the Way

on September 30, 2013

This semester is a bit different than last for things ten to pile up in one day.  That is the classes starting in semester 2 all have their exams on the same day.  Today was the first of those days with 4 exams between 8 am and 3:15.  Boy was it a challenge preparing for all these exams this weekend I entered my room on Friday afternoon around 4:30 and did not leave until 7:30 pm on Sunday when I went for a little walk around my complex.  Besides sleeping, eating, and showering the remainder of weekend was spent studying.  This study time was in addition to the daily studying I did during the block itself.

In medical school one thing is for sure and that studying cannot be pushed of and cramming does not work.  I will not lie preparing for and taking these exams was exhausting.  The exams themselves were more difficult than last semester but over all I think I did well.  As exhausting as it is to take multiple exams in a single day it is very beneficial.  See after I finish my semester in Maine I will be sitting for the USMLE Step 1 exam which is a long 8 hour exam, with a few breaks interspersed, covering all the courses I will have taken by the time I finish the basic sciences.

So here I am at the start of week 5 and block 2 ready to pick up and get ready for my next set of exams in 4 short weeks.  While 4 weeks might seem like a decent amount of time I know it will be here before I know it.  I cannot believe how fast this first block went by and with my experience from last semester it only goes by faster from here on out.  However, what is awesome about this semester is my opportunity to learn about genetic diseases.  I am excited to see what the remainder of the semester holds.
